- How to make an appointment at the Immigration Office
Korean immigration offices offer services only to those who make an appointment in advance. You will have to make an online reservation for services such as visa extension/transfer, ID card application, etc. So, you need to be in Korea to make an appointment on HiKorea. This is possible through the HiKorea website and is a fairly simple process. Follow these steps to book your appointment at the Korean immigration offices. 1. Go to the HiKorea website and click the "Apply" button in the "Reserve Visit" section 2. Choose the correct button at the bottom of the webpage to make a reservation as a member HiKorea (left) or non-member (right). If this is your first visit to the immigration office or you do not have a HiKorea account, you can set up an appointment as a non-member using the information from your passport or ID card, if you already have one. If this is the first time you have applied for an ID card in Korea, you will need to use your passport information. 3. Completing your personal data As a new HiKorea member As an already existing HiKorea member If you are not a HiKorea member After clicking on the non-member section, a page will appear where you can choose to continue booking either by using your ID card information or by using your passport information. If you choose to use your passport information, click on “Identify verification using the passport number”. Then you will need to enter your passport number, country of citizenship, and date of birth. Click Confirm when you're done. 4. You will then need to complete the application form for scheduling. You will first need to choose which immigration office you want to book for next to the "Competent authority" tab. If you are not sure which immigration office you would need to visit, click the "detailed search" button. A pop-up window will appear where you can enter the region and then the city, county, and/or district (si, dong, gu) where you live to find the right immigration office to visit. * If you live in Seoul, you can only enter the name of the district (gu). Choose the residence category you belong to. If you are not from China, choose the option "Control of foreign (non-Chinese) residents", the first of the three possible options. You will then be asked to select the reason for booking an appointment from the list of options available. You will have the option to enter your mobile phone number (Korean) for booking messages immediately after this section (we advise you to do this to receive an update on the date and number of the booking). Create a 4-digit password to make changes to or make a reservation subsequent correction. Finally, choose the date you want to visit the immigration office. Click the calendar button and you will see a list of available dates for the month. If you request an ID card or extend your visa, take into account the expiration date of the visa to avoid fines. Try to choose a booking date that allows the closest date to visit ifs possible, as reservations for immigration offices are filled in very quickly. ■ Selected Date (You can apply on the following day) ■ Reservation Unavailable (Reservation expiration) · Time schedules, which are already reserved, are grayed out · If you are unable to schedule an in-person visit before your visa expiration date, or deadlines to report any change of your stay, we suggest using an online petition. · Reservation time slots are currently in limited operation to prevent the spread of COVID-19. You have the option to describe the purpose of the visit so that the person who will handle the case will be prepared in advance to help you with your situation. Press the Apply button and your visit will then be confirmed. 5. You will be directed to a new page with the booking receipt. Make sure you save and print this receipt for your visit. Sometimes you must present the booking receipt/message on the phone that you received on the day of the appointment. If you are a HiKorea member If you are a HiKorea member, follow the steps starting with choosing the immigration office (No. 4). You will notice that the name and phone numbers are filled in automatically. Then everything will be basically the same. The immigration office requires a reservation in case you want to go there in person. So, make sure you have one before your visa expires. If you are unable to schedule an in-person visit before your visa expiration date, or deadlines to report any change of your stay, we suggest using an online petition or you can present yourself on the last day of your visa expiration without an appointment, note that you may wait there a long time since those numbers are not a priority.

- Allimi Day
★★★ Korea Allimi Special Article - 대한민국 알리미 특별 조항 ★★★ The Seoul Foundation of Women & Families' International Conference Hall hosted Allimi Day last week on August 28! The event was divided into two parts: a quiz in which we had to answer questions about Korea, and a second portion in which we were divided into teams and played various games. First we were divided into teams, each had 4-5 members and we had to accumulate more balls, which counted as points with our names on them. More balls meant more chances to win a nice prize at the finish. During the Golden Bell time we have learned a lot of new information about Korean culture, language, history and even politics. I think these type of events are promoting and teaching foreigners more about Korea in a fun and educative way. The sports part, was actually even more fun, we played a new type of "Red light, Green light", where we had to also pop balloons. Then we played "find the chairs", and we were blindfolded as well. And lastly the mime was my favorite. I love playing this games! At the end, a travel bag was given away as well as several other prizes via a lottery method. There were several nice prizes and of course all with the help of MOFA. I was left with a nice T-shirt, a cute pouch and a coffee machine that I won. I made memories and met lots of new people. These events are always the best! The #ENDviolence Campaign, created by the Public Diplomacy and Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea, and UNICEF, was also promoted during the event. By ending violence against children, the #ENDviolence Campaign with UNICEF supports child safety. For additional information, visit the official Instagram page! If you enjoy these types of activities, next year join Unboxing Korea! #MOFA, #UnboxingKorea, #KoreaAllimi, #언박싱코리아, #대한민국알리미, #specialexperience,
- K-medi Center in Seoul - a relaxation oasis behind the busy streets
This year I had the amazing opportunity to visit K-medi Center in Seoul. This place is everything you need after a hard working week at work, or a stressful time. Located in the north-east part of Seoul this center gives you an amazing opportunity to try traditional Korean "spa" or traditional Korean medicine. After I arrived there it was like entering in another world. The atmosphere, the people and the calmness of the place was just the right thing I needed. I took the ticket and then I waited for my turn, while visiting their museum. If you are a fan of history, this is the place for you. The museum presents all the traditional Korean medicine practices since the beginning until now. You have miniatures, a traditional "doctor's home" and lots of other amazing stuff. You can even try to touch or smell the medicinal herbs or to take a fun quiz at the end of the tour. Being obsessed with miniatures, seeing their replicas was amazing. However the best part started after. I first went and had an amazing foot bath, scented with wild raspberries bath salt and a cute thermometer. The bath was amazing, outside looking at the bright sky, having an amazing time while relaxing with nice music. I think I will try to recreate this in my home, I always need something so relaxing after a hard day. Then, I went upstairs, at the 3rd floor to have my massage. An unique experience indeed. I had to lay down on a bed, while a hot mask pack covers my eyes, and the bed was giving me a massage. Yes you heard right, the BED! That was an automated bed, that give you a traditional Korean massage. It felt so strange at the beginning, I thought someone was playing drums on my back. However I really enjoyed it. I think this was what I actually needed for my back bones. Even though it hurt a lot, the sensation is so different that you have to try it by yourself, before trying to even understand it. And lastly I had a hand and foot manage. I felt like Iron Man a little bit, because both devices were very high tech, but it was very fun. Not going to lie, it hurt so much, that I thought a Boa Constrictor was going to leave me without my limbs, but after it finished I could feel all the tiredness and pain from before going away. Now you have the unique opportunity to make your own bath salt, herb pouch or wood pressing painting. These additions are amazing and bring more fun to the actual experience. And of course, you can try a cute Joseon Dynasty nurse hanbok so you can feel exactly like a cute doctor. Will I go again? Call me crazy, but I will, and not one time, but if I can, every once in a while to relax from my stressful life, I would. I can't explain you enough or with a lot of details the real feeling, but if you have the opportunity to come to Seoul, or Korea, or if you want to try it, just go! Is an amazing and unique experience! - Sejong Village Food Street
Sejong Village Food Street or 세종마을 음식문하거리 is located at Gyeongbokgung Station (line 3, exit 2). If you walk forward the food street is on the first left street called Jahamun-ro 1-gil. To make it more well known and promote the Korean food culture to foreigners and locals all together, Omomo Cafe or 공유카페 organizes various programs. The first one that we attended to, was Kimbap Heaven, sponsored by 김밥전국 restaurant located near exit 2. We cooked together kimbap and tteokbokki, then we enjoyed eating them and get to know each other. If you want to check them out go to their Instagram page, or website. These two months they will have a lot of experiences you can try out for yourself. King Sejong of the Joseon Kingdom (1392–1910), the royal figure who was instrumental in the development of the Korean alphabet, Hanguel, was born at Seochon, a city west of Gyeongbok Palace. It has been transformed by locals into a cultural art town where King Sejong's spirit still thrives. With more than 600 ancient homes, Seochon's hanok hamlet is one of the best-kept secrets in the city core. It is also well known for the variety of foods it offers. Visitors to Sejong Village Food Street can actually have a proper gourmet journey there because it is lined with numerous traditional restaurants. The sky is illuminated by lanterns on the street at night, giving the impression that one is in Joseon era. There are many different types of food, from traditional to cosmopolitan dishes such Korean soups, Bossam, seafood, braised Kimchi, sushi, spring rolls, sirloin, and fried potatoes. They go well with a cup of coffee or alcoholic beverages. When visiting Seoul, Sejong Village Food Culture Street is the place to go if you want to sample traditional Korean cuisine or if you miss your home cuisine. There are more must-eat foods and eateries to be found.

- Chuseok in Korea
A significant mid-October harvest festival and a three-day holiday in South Korea, Chuseok, or 추석, literally translates as "autumn evening" and is also known as Hangawi or 한가위, from the old Korean for "the vast middle (of autumn)". It is commemorated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month on the full moon. Koreans travel to their original hometowns to celebrate a successful harvest by visiting relatives and feasting on traditional cuisine. Chuseok is a food-centered holiday, and preparation, cooking, and feasting often take up the majority of holiday time. The younger generation is celebrating with anything tasty as tradition fades, just like Americans do these days for Thanksgiving. Savory pancakes, called jeon, are one of the central pieces of this holiday. They may be made with either flour or egg batter and come in a wide range of flavors, including pa-jeon (scallions), buchu-jeon (garlic chives), gamja-jeon (potatoes), kimchi-jeon (kimchi), and virtually anything else. Japchae is a stir-fry meal prepared using "glass noodles," also known as dangmyeon, which are manufactured from sweet potato starch. It is topped with meat and veggies and seasoned with soy sauce and sesame oil. They also consume songpyeon, also known as 송편, yakgwa, traditional snacks, as well as fruits like Asian pears and hallabong and rice wines like sindoju and dongdongju. There are two main customs associated with Chuseok: Seongmyo, or 성묘 when family members visit the grave which is typically accompanied by Beolcho or 벌초 by cleaning up the area surrounding graves and eliminating weeds, and Charye 차례, also known as Jesa or ancestor memorial rites at home. Another significant tradition is to prepare the ancestors' favorite meals as an offering. Today, many people enjoy giving away gifts that contain alcohol, spam, tuna, or other foods. Even businesses will give you gifts or cash. One of the most significant holidays in Korea is Chuseok, and people enjoy cooking and eating as much food as they can. You can feel lonely if you're in Korea at this time, so I advise meeting up with friends, going on a picnic, or attempting to prepare some local cuisine on your own. The Chuseok spirit is then more appreciated. Every year we try to cook traditional food, meet friends and enjoy the holidays together! This always makes it more special and more friendly.

- Seoul National Cemetery
★★★ Korea Allimi Special Article - 대한민국 알리미 특별 조항★★★ Dongjak-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, South Korea is the location of the Seoul National Cemetery, or 국립서울현충원. Veterans from Korea, including those who lost their lives in the Korean independence movement, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, are buried there. The cemetery contains the graves of four South Korean presidents. The cemetery was founded by Syngman Rhee's presidential proclamation in 1955 as the National Military Cemetery, and ten years later, in 1965, it was given the title of National Cemetery. The controlling organization changed its name from "National Cemetery Management Office" to "National Memorial Board" in 1996. Daejeon National Cemetery was created in 1976 and the cemetery's capacity was reached in the early 1970s. Prior to 2006, when the Ministry of Patriots' and Veterans' Affairs took over management of the Daejeon National Cemetery, both cemeteries were once under the Ministry of Defence's control (South Korea). The peaks of Gwanaksan Mountain near Dongjakbong Peak circle the back portion of Seoul National Cemetery on three sides and has a view of the Hangang River towards the front. The Seoul National Cemetery is located in an area that is roughly 1,430,000 m2. The graves of 165,000 martyrs, including soldiers, police officers, and reserve forces members who gave their lives in defense of their nation, are honored here. Both the remnants of about 7,000 unidentified soldiers whose bodies were discovered and memorial tablets for roughly 104,000 troops who died during the Korean War are housed inside the Memorial Tower. The Burial Plots, which are separated into numerous sections, contain the graves of more than 54,000 martyred patriots. These include graves of troops, police officers, deserving civilians, and important members of the provisional government. Memorial ceremonies and other activities are held at the Seoul National Cemetery each Memorial Day to pay tribute to the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation. One of the most iconic days is the 6th of June. I think it gave me a state of peace and I was also humbled by so many memories, and people who gave their lives for this country. Even though visiting a cemetery may sound strange, this is like a national park where people even come and make picnics and remember those who died. It must be so hard to see the graves if your dear ones are there, but at the same time, you can be proud that their names are honored. #MOFA, #UnboxingKorea, #KoreaAllimi, #언박싱코리아, #대한민국알리미, #UniqueKorea, #SpecialExperience

The grand opening took place on November 14, 2008. With over 2,400 exhibits and broad scope, it is recognized as one of the largest and best-equipped science museums in the world. It was constructed on 243,970-square-foot land with a building size of 49,582 square meters and an exhibition space of 19,127 square meters. Five permanent display centers are located in the main building: the Natural History Center, Children's Experience Center, High-Tech Center, and Traditional Science Center. The planetarium, observatory, outdoor event space, and insect habitat center are close by. More than half of the exhibit items on view are interactive, allowing visitors to dive in and engage with science directly utilizing their imaginations and their thoughts. The website has a 3D interactive page, where you can see the museum and check out the facilities before going there. Personally, I thought the place was just amazing. You can interact with most of the exhibitions and they are well done. I wish I could had more time to try them all, and check the outside places in depth, however for a few hours I felt amazing, I learned so much and I had so much fun! - Yeouido Hangang Park Swimming Pool
❀❀❀ Yeundeungpo Special article ❀❀❀ The swimming pool at Yeouido Hangang Park offers stunning views of the Hangang River as an outdoor pool. The pool has a capacity of more than 3,500 people and opens during the summer. By the pool, there are several stores offering a variety of snacks and light refreshments. Visitors can enjoy the variety of events and activities that take place in the park and the pool, which is a terrific spot to swim. We went there on 20th August, and we had so much fun! We arrived around 2 PM (we don't recommend going so late, because you can't find a place so easily), and after trying for around 30 minutes we did find some sunbeds and a parasol. We had some slushies and tteokbokki from the local vendors and we also brought some food from home. Actually, you can come with food and drink from outside, so you don't have to pay so much for the local ones. The prices are a little bit spicy, the slushy is 6,000 won, the tteokbokki 8,000 won, ramen 3,000 won. They also have chicken and pizza for between 12,000 - 23,000 won. All the operations are in Korean, so we do recommend going there if you have at least a basic Korean language knowledge or with some Korean friends. Also is MANDATORY to wear a swimming cap, that you can come with from home, or buy it there (10,000 won). You can't access the pool without one, so be prepared in advance. You can also come with tubes, or buy one there, but not big boats. They have some rules, that you should follow, like don't jump in the swimming pool and run around. The swimming pool also has a locker and a place to change your clothes, outside showers, and toilets. The place is split into two parts, the deeper pool, which is around 1.3 m deep, and the children's pool that's around 0.6m deep. Between the two there is a part where you can stay under a parasol without paying for the sunbed if you don't want to. You can also sit in the grass, or just on the cement part, with no problem. We do recommend you to try it next year because it is cheap and extremely fun. From our homes it takes around 15 minutes, so we will totally try it again next year when it opens! - Asan Oeam Folk Village
★★★ Korea Allimi Special Article - 대한민국 알리미 특별 조항★★★ Asan Oeam Folk Village 외암민속마을 is designated as an Important Folklore Cultural Asset No. 236. The town, which retains Joseon-era architecture and culture, was added to the tentative list of UNESCO world historic sites in 2011. It was recognized as an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage in South Korea in 2000. Oeam Folk Village has formed over 500 years ago and is located on the southeast slopes of Seolhwasan, some 8 kilometers south of the rural city of Asan in South Chungcheong Province. Currently, there are some 50 households living there. The village was created when the Yean Yi clan settled down during the reign of King Seonjo (1567-1608) during the Joseon era. There were many talented descendants of the clan and among them was Yi Gan, a great Confucianism scholar whose pen name was Oeam, the origin of the village’s name. The buildings in the village still exhibit the Joseon era's societal organization. The thatched roofs on about half of the dwellings are re-thatched annually by the residents using a traditional technique. Stone walls enclose the homes. The Bongsusan mountain is to the village's southeast, and it is located at the base of the Seolhwasan mountain to the northeast. The village, which has an oval shape, is situated on a line that hypothetically connects the two mountains. Houses have a south-southwest orientation. There is one main route where many secondary roads converge. West of the village, there is an agricultural area that reaches out, and a stream connects it to the community. This is a typical Joseon village layout. Oeam is unique because the community has numerous streams that link the gardens of the homes to the stream. The gardens are typical of Korean gardens from that time period. The people also create regional foods like buggumi and preserve Joseon-era ceremonies and practices that are protected as national treasures.

We went there with the Allimi program and we had a variety of choices, from salad to raw beef. Our lunch menu included: salad, meat with tomatoes and eggplants, seaweed soup, kimchi jeon, deokgalbi and chapchae. After we received some stir-fried octopus and bossam (steamed pork) together with the raw beef. And before ending we eat some doenjang jjigae with rice. For drinking, we did receive a cold and sweet maesil tea. The food was amazing and we had a great time.
