Cheonggyecheon Turns 20: Dive into Water Seoul 2025 Celebrations

A Celebration of Renewal, Resilience, and Riverfront Joy

Seoul marks the 20th anniversary of the Cheonggyecheon Restoration with a spectacular celebration blending culture, environmental leadership, and urban renewal. The “2025 Water Seoul International Conference” offers a rare opportunity to walk—and splash—where the public hasn't been allowed in two decades.

Hosted by the city of Seoul, the event kicks off on June 11 with the opening of the Cheonggyecheon upper stream section (Cheonggye Falls to Gwangtonggyo Bridge), allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the creek—literally—with the Cheonggyecheon Water Splash experience. Running daily from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM until June 22, it’s a playful, cooling retreat in the city center for locals and visitors alike.

“Cheonggyecheon is not just a stream—it’s a story of environmental courage and urban transformation,” said a city official. “This year, we want people to experience that legacy with their own feet in the water.”
